Tour description
Carthage
Your tour begins with a convenient pickup from your accommodation in Sousse, Monastir, Hammamet, or Mahdia. You’ll travel north toward the legendary city of Carthage, once a powerful hub of the ancient Mediterranean world and now a UNESCO World Heritage site. The tour includes a visit to Byrsa Hill, the political and religious heart of ancient Carthage, where you can walk among the ruins and take in panoramic views of the Gulf of Tunis. You’ll also explore remnants of Punic and Roman structures that reflect the city’s layered history.
The Baths of Antoninus
Continue to the Antonine Baths, one of the largest Roman bath complexes built outside of Rome. Located on the coast, these massive 2nd-century ruins offer a remarkable glimpse into Roman engineering and daily life, all set against a stunning sea backdrop.
Saint Luis Cathedral
While on Byrsa Hill, you will also see the Saint Louis Cathedral, a now-deconsecrated Roman Catholic church built in 1890 in memory of King Louis IX of France. Its unique architectural style — blending Moorish, Byzantine, and Gothic influences — makes it one of the most iconic landmarks in Carthage.
Sidi Bou Said
Next, you’ll visit Sidi Bou Said, the enchanting blue-and-white village perched on a hill above the sea. You’ll stroll through narrow cobbled streets lined with traditional houses and artisan shops. During your visit, you may explore the Palace Nejma Ezzahra, once the home of Baron Rodolphe d’Erlanger and now a center for Arabic and Mediterranean music. Nearby, you’ll also find Dar Alaïa, a small museum dedicated to the world-renowned fashion designer Ezzedine Alaïa.
Lunch
Enjoy a lunch break in Sidi Bou Said or the surrounding area, where you’ll have a chance to relax and take in the atmosphere of this picturesque village. Lunch may be included or optional, depending on the tour package.
Tunis Medina
In the afternoon, the tour continues to the heart of the capital city — Tunis Medina. Here, you’ll discover a vibrant world of narrow alleys, traditional souks, and centuries-old architecture. A highlight of this visit is the Zitouna Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in Africa and a central part of Tunisia’s Islamic heritage. You’ll also have some time to explore local shops or simply enjoy the historic atmosphere.
After a full day of cultural discovery, you’ll return to your accommodation in Sousse, Monastir,
Hammamet, or Mahdia.
